DESCRIPTION
Denmark's election has produced one of the strangest outcomes in Europe. The left-wing bloc suffered a serious setback, Mette Frederiksen's Social Democrats recorded their worst result since 1903, and the right-wing Danish People's Party gained the most seats yet Frederiksen has somehow managed to hold on.Michael Heaver looks at the chaotic aftermath of Denmark's election, including record-breaking coalition negotiations after Frederiksen initially failed to form a government. He explains how Danish politics has been shifting right, only for the final deal to produce a new coalition led again by Frederiksen, involving the Social Democrats, Moderates, Green Left and Social Liberals. The result may leave Denmark with a government that is even more left-wing than before, despite Frederiksen's own party losing seats.
