DESCRIPTION
Hungary’s post-election reset is moving from political victory to constitutional overhaul. Peter Magyar’s TISZA movement is now using its huge mandate to reshape the rules of power — and Viktor Orbán may be the biggest figure shut out by the change.
Michael Heaver looks at TISZA’s latest moves after its emphatic election win, including pressure on President Tamás Sulyok to resign and Magyar’s push for closer ties with Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania and Austria. The biggest move is a proposed constitutional amendment limiting Hungarian prime ministers to a maximum of eight years in office. Since Orbán has already served far longer than that, the amendment would effectively bar him from becoming prime minister again.
